Melanoma is the most deadly of the skin cancers and causes the death of about one person per hour in the United States.  Over the past several decades the incidence of melanoma has steadily risen each year by more than 1% per year, while the incidence of other cancers has declined by .6%.  This year thousands of people are expected to die from melanoma.  According to Men's Health Magazine, Bangor, Maine is seventh in the top ten most dangerous places for incidence of melanoma. The Foundation to Cure Melanoma has been created in Bangor, Maine to assist in funding research to discover a cure for melanoma.  The foundation is a group of local businessmen, businesswomen, researchers and individuals who have been personally touched by the disease.  We will be working with the Maine Institute for Human Genetics and Health to bring a top research scientist to the Bangor area who will be focused on finding the cure to eradicate this cancer.
